The Bashtova Castle is located about 2 km away from the village of Vilë-Bashtova in the vicinity of the Shkumbin river. From the castle walls one can observe the coastline from the bay of Durrës to Divjaka. The castle was built in the 15th century and served both as a trading facility for the Venetian merchants and as a stronghold to wade off Ottoman invaders. Its strategic position allowed medieval warriors to control a very large area to the Adriatic coast to the west, and the same area to the field from the east.
