15 March 2022 – High Representative/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell visits the mosaic of the National Historical Museum

On 15 March High Representative/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, visited Albania as part of his Western Balkans tour. We welcomed him at the Mosaic of the National Historical Museum, one of EU4Culture sites.

Together with the EU Ambassador Luigi Soreca, Minister of Culture Elva Margariti, UN Resident Coordinator Fiona McCluney, UNOPS Country Manager Pamela Lama and field specialists we briefed him about the overall conservation interventions which will be undertaken in this important cultural site affected by the 2019 earthquake.

The Mosaic depicts portions of Albania’s history  for the time it was implemented. It represents a true technical and artistic accomplishment.

The conservation specialists are taking care to restore it piece by piece using the same methodology and materials as originally built.
